Sleep and your fitness

Sleep is 🔑 when it comes to your fitness and getting results. I'm sure we're all aware that rest is necessary but the quality of your sleep is what matters most. Putting energy into supporting your sleep is one of the most important things you can do outside of the gym. We love when you come in for a workout, but we love it even more when you're well rested and ready to slay that workout.

So how can you better support your sleep? Check out the list below:

  • go to bed at the same time each night, even on the weekends.

  • get up at the same time each morning...even on the weekends.

  • resist device usage within 60-90 minutes before bed.

  • make sure your sleeping space makes you feel safe, it is cool and has little to no light. If you need noise, fans and noise machines work well. If you need to tune out noise, try ear plugs or maybe a noise maker to drown out night time stirrings

  • if you need it, have a protein and healthy fat filled snack 60-90 minutes before bed. Protein helps your muscles recover and fat keeps you full. If you wake up hungry in the middle of the night, a snack may be needed. Undereating will not help your recovery either.

  • If you've been to a yoga class, try some breathing exercises to help you calm down before bed or if you wake up in the middle of the night. Resetting with a breathing practice works wonders.

  • Make a to-do list before bed so you can get those to-do voices out of your head. If it's written down you won't be wide awake at 2AM hoping you remember it the next day.

A well rested member is a happy member, and we care about our 212 members so make sure you're catching your z's and getting in that movement, regularly.
